My car now has MOAR LOW!

Kinja'd!!!

I got a set of Koni Coilovers (1150-5080) for $325 shipped on VWVortex and finished installing them at around 1:30 AM this morning

Rears are 4 threads from the highest setting and fronts are 17 threads from lowest (around halfway)

Kinja'd!!!

Installation required using my big effing hammer and PB Blaster numerous times because rust

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Don’t know why this one is blurry...

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I’ve wanted spacers on my E46 for a while - why those cars left the factory with the wheels tucked in like they’re going to bed is beyond me.

Looks good. I'm kinda surprised you needed to use the BFH on your suspension. Should it really be rusting already? It isn't all that old is it?

Well, I guess be glad you don’t live in the salt belt.

Looking at the car more, it looks soo much better lowered. Those wheels just didn't quite look right to me in the before pics. Those are GTI Wheels, right?

Yeah, 17x7.5 Denvers off a 2009 GTI (got them for $400 with a set of new Pirelli P Zero Nero all seasons)

The winter wheels on my dad’s Octavia are even more tucked in than yours. Looks pretty bad but he doesn’t mind.

I just don’t like it for some reason... they need to fill out the wheel wells

Personally, I’d go a tad higher in the front, but overall it’s the perfect amount of low without having to sign up for #STANCERZNATION.

Looks great, digging those GTI wheels as well. I don’t get why there’s so much hate around lowering. As long as it isn't slammed it pretty much always looks (and if done properly) handles better.

Yeah haha, your car is far from slammed. Honestly you could go lower and still be fine. Have you noticed the handling change? I'm impressed you found coilovers for that cheap.. I need to start looking around forums again!

I am a Volkswagen enthusiast and I also work for them. Your wagon looks great, I love when customers bring their JSWs in for service and they're riding on OEM vw wheels other than the ones that came on it. The denvers looks right at home, get some spacers, throw a rack and fairing on it and you sir have a car I would drive all day long.

I already have crossbars... Saab ones :) yes they fit correctly. I really want spacers too! 5Mm for the front and 12.5 for the rear

Nice! Saab? that makes it even cooler man! I don't have any recent pictures of my beetle but its lowered, im on 19" rotiform wheels, full exhaust, thule roof rack and fairing and a couple other bits here and there.

Badass! Old post, but I just found it now!

How do they ride?

Kinja'd!!! Sportwägen, Driver Of The Red Sportwagen > jkm7680
07/07/2015 at 22:58

Kinja'd!!!1

On the softest setting they actually ride softer than stock but still corner really well. At full stiffness they ride a bit bumpy but they corner like no ones business! Just need the rear shocks now... UPS lost one so I still have the factory shocks with the Koni springs in the back

Kinja'd!!! jkm7680 > Sportwägen, Driver Of The Red Sportwagen

Kinja'd!!!0

My Racelands ride like hell, it jars my spine. I’ve got some form of scoliosis from driving my car, I know it.

So you’ve got the spring on an OEM rear shock on the back, haha.

Kinja'd!!! Sportwägen, Driver Of The Red Sportwagen > jkm7680
07/07/2015 at 23:06

Kinja'd!!!1

For now lol... the shock isn’t actually inside the spring though. It is diagonal to it pretty much. waiting on the insurance check from UPS... I’m going to be buying some new Koni Yellows with it

Do those Koni’s have a better load carrying capacity than stock? Look what I got ours to do with a full roof box, a trunk packed with stuff and 4 people. They make the wheels un-spaced? (i guess) for this reason.

TBH I’m not really sure :/ however that can’t be too good for the shocks lol

Also, another red sportwagen tdi owner on here? Is yours a manual?

Kinja'd!!! John_Harbinson > Sportwägen, Driver Of The Red Sportwagen

Kinja'd!!!0

No, and it’s my mom’s. We had the option to get one in South Carolina, but my mom didn’t want me to go all the way down there just for a car (We’re from Ct), so alas, it’s an automatic. She had to have red with tan leatherette and a panoramic sunroof. We’ve averaged (you might want to sit down) 32.7 mpg

Kinja'd!!! Sportwägen, Driver Of The Red Sportwagen > John_Harbinson
07/14/2015 at 12:24

Kinja'd!!!0

ONLY 32?! HOW? I manage to average 36 with a lead foot and shifting at 4000 rpm! (Along with sticky Pirelli P Zero all seasons on 17” GTI wheels)

Mine also has tan leatherette, but no sunroof. My parents bought it because my mom would be doing 120+ miles per day and her Chrysler 300 getting 20MPG would not cut it with gas prices around $4 per gallon... and this thing somehow ended up being mine lol

Kinja'd!!! John_Harbinson > Sportwägen, Driver Of The Red Sportwagen

Kinja'd!!!0

That’s awesome. And Thule roofbox+knockoff crossbars+I bet my lead foot’s heavier than yours, and a packed cargo space. I’ve been running at about 90-95 and sometimes a little faster if i’m running with a scout

Kinja'd!!! John_Harbinson > Sportwägen, Driver Of The Red Sportwagen

Brought it up to 34.6 mpg this tank, just stopped for fuel

GOOD... i’ll get my em-pee-geez from my trip to KC next week and report back with them... Also, I have roof bars, but I don’t drive with them most of the time... if that MPG figure is with the bars and the box then that is really good... I average about 27 or so doing 75 with just the cross bars on :(
